Latest Venture

This summer I am planning a trip to North Western Ontario during the month of July. I am looking forward to painting on location at Oliver Lake and Lake Superior. Many of the locations I will visit on the Lake Superior route are the same spots the Group of Seven visited many decades before.

This winter I am still teaching three times a week with Beginner and Advanced classes for children.

Biography

I was born in Falkirk, Scotland. From early childhood I have always had a keen interest in drawing, painting, and music. My family moved to Canada in 1954 and settled in Toronto, where I continued to pursue my passion for art.

My professional career began in Orillia in 1970. As a member of the Orillia Artist's Society I painted with Marta Brestovancsky, Paul Myslin and Arthur Schilling. We opened a successful gallery in Toronto. Though largely self-taught, I studied extensively in drawing and painting and attended classes with many well-known Canadian artists.

Living in Calgary in 1980, I began to paint in watercolour. I held workshops and taught drawing and watercolour classes. My art was commissioned and sold at the Masters' Gallery in Calgary.

Returning to Ontario in 1993 and purchased a studio in the "Beach" where I paint full time. My art celebrates many Beach locales in the form of paintings, prints, and note cards.

Gillian is equally versatile in pen and ink, oil, multimedia and watercolour. Her medium is mainly watercolour and she recently won a major watercolour competition. Several private and corporate collectors across Canada proudly display her art.
